~Crazy for Cupcakes~

What comes to your mind when you hear the word, "Cupcake"?

This classic, nostalgic little dessert that’s been around forever has now made its appearance not just on Martha, but on Oprah, Saturday Nite Live, and Sex and the City. The reason why cupcakes are so popular is surprisingly simple: they’re delicious. Cupcakes are moist and tasty morsels of cake, covered with just the right amount of fluffy, sweet buttercream. No utensils are necessary. You can use your favorite cake recipe - just add some cupcake papers and a muffin tin!

It's almost surprising that it took us this long to figure it out. Really, what's not to love? On a purely functional level, cupcakes are portable, they're small, and they're easily personalized. But it goes even deeper than that. From an emotional standpoint, they go all the way back to our childhood, and in so doing they seem to make us sublimely happy.

As a mom and grandma who loves to see the smiles on the kids’ faces, they’re easy to make, easy to eat, and sure to please even the biggest kid who may wander into my kitchen. They offer a small commitment of calories….though it’s not easy to eat ‘just one’. Creativity-wise, they offer endless options from batter to fillings to toppings. Heck….they’re even hard to ruin!

Even the smallest cities are now peppered with bakeshops specializing in these tasty little morsels. Cupcake cookbooks abound. They’re even gracing the buffet tables of the swankiest weddings!

And isn't nostalgia really what it's all about? Most of us long for a bite of our childhood. The thing about cupcakes is that they have an adult sensibility even as they bring out the child in us.

They’re hip, chic….and they’re here to stay. I still bet ya can’t eat just one!

Well, right now a cupcake doesn't sound all that good to me. ;)

"Cupcake" always brings to mind my grandmother (who is still with us, by the way - 103 last December.) She would take me to a neighborhood bakery when I visited, for her to buy a loaf of lovely fresh bread and for me to pick a cupcake. I always chose a chocolate one, with milk chocolate frosting. Great memory for me, and thanks for bringing it back to the surface.

Lovely new creations Carol!
When I think of Cupcakes I think of the delicious icing (or glaze) on top... sometimes plain icing sugar, sometimes lemon, orange or pink icing with hundreds and thousands on...
You know that Cupcakes don't exist here in Brasil?! I always had them as a child in England with my Grandmother (who always made them or bought them) and now you've got me missing them even more!
I have a Cupcake craving!!! X

You like Christine Garren too? I've rarely come across someone who knows of her. That's wonderful. She's a breathtaking poet!

Oh I love the first one. So cute. Wouldn't it be neat if your last name was Cupcake? Someone has to have that last name I bet.
